A serial rapists who mercilessly raped his victims have been
sentenced by a law court. Dexter Bell, 26, prowled the streets of Crown
Heights, Brooklyn, raping vulnerable women after he engaged them in
chit-chat with the youngest being just 15.
Bell was arrested when police received an anonymous tip giving his name and address.
In November, he was found guilty of six counts of predatory sexual
assault. In 2008, he had been convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl,
but was still loose on the streets in 2013, when he committed his
one-man raping spree.
According to court evidence, from April 4 to April 11, 2013, he
approached four different women and started conversations. When they
engaged him, he would then overpower them by grabbing their arms or
hair, pull them to a secluded area, and rape them, according to the New
York Post.
One victim, 25, submitted a victim impact statement to the court before his sentencing in Brooklyn on Monday, saying, 'What
Dexter Bell did to me changed my life forever. Even after two years, I
don’t feel as safe. Bell deserves to go to jail for a very long time.
Not just because of what he did to me but so he never does this to
anyone else ever again.'
His youngest victim, who was 15 at the time of the crime, also submitted a heartbreaking statement, saying, 'I’m glad that you got caught because I don’t want this to happen to any other females.'
'I would never want any other females to have to go through
what I went through. I was only 15 years old. Why would you do that to
me?'
'How would you feel if someone did this to you? How would you want someone to treat your mother, sister, or your daughter?'
When he was taken in, he was carrying a note detailing the time and
dates of two of the rapes, a detective testified. Brooklyn District
Attorney Ken Thompson said, 'This serial rapist, who committed four
rapes within one week, including one of a 15-year-old girl, is a
sadistic and violent sexual predator who is simply not fit to walk the
streets ever again. That’s why he must spend the rest of his life behind bars.'
